FOR CLASSES AND PRIVATE SESSIONS
Most equipment for classes is easily fond at home or there are alternatives you can find at home instead of having to purchase them at a store. If you have specific modifications you are concerned about feel free to contact Dr. Sarah Petrich, PT for some other ideas. ie: equipment & modifications for sensitive wrists, modifications if you can't kneel etc.
TYPICAL MAT CLASS / floor exercise PROPS
EVERY MAT CLASS:
Pilates or Yoga Mat Pillow 4 - 6 inch ball |
ALTERNATIVES:
Carpet, blanket, rug Yoga block Rolled up towel Paper towel roll Dog toy or stuffed animal |
PURPOSE:
Used to provide a comfortable surface for floor exercises. Pilates mats are thicker than yoga mats. Used primarily for side lying exercises for proper neck alignment and to decrease neck strain. Used for repositioning and inner thigh exercises. |
TYPICAL DESK CLASS / STANDING EXERCISE PROPS
EVERY DESK CLASS:
Desk or Table (Typical height table) Chair: (Ideally no arms, typical dining room height) 4 - 6 inch ball 1 Inch Book/Block BONUS/OPTIONAL: Resistance Band/Tubing/Loops |
ALTERNATIVES:
Chair on wheels (will be more challenging) Rolled up towel Paper towel roll Dog toy or stuffed animal ALTERNATIVES: Long scarf (best if it has a little stretch) |
PURPOSE:
Used as a surface to push and pull on for resistance & a stable surface for balance & gait re-training exercises. Used for seated & standing exercises. Used for repositioning and inner thigh exercises. Used for standing gait re-training exercises, alignment repositioning exercises, and glute exercises Used to add resistance to glute exercises and arm exercises. Sometimes used as a long band or can be tied into a loop. |
